Job Creation: Building Your URL List

This guide walks you through the first two main steps of creating an optimization job: defining initial job details and building your list of URLs.

## Step 1: Details

The first step in creating an optimization job is to provide basic details for your bulk optimization job. In the "Build a Job" flow, you will:

  • Job Name: Enter a descriptive name for your job in the designated field (e.g., "Blog Post Batch - Q3", "High-Priority Pages"). This name will help you identify and manage your jobs later.
  • Description (Optional): You can add an optional description for more context, such as "Optimize titles and descriptions for sustainable practices campaign."
  • GSC Account: From the dropdown menu, choose the Google Search Console property that contains the URLs you intend to optimize.
  • Site URL: Select the specific site URL associated with the chosen GSC account.

After providing these details, click the "Next: Build URL List" button to proceed.

## Step 2: Build URL List

After defining your job details, the next step is to select the URLs you want to optimize. This involves sourcing page URLs, configuring the fetch, filtering candidates, and finalizing your selection.

### 1. Source Page URLs From:

Top Title offers several ways to add URLs to your job:

  1. Google Search Console:
    • Choose the "Google Search Console" option.
  2. XML Sitemap(s):
    • Select the "XML Sitemap(s)" option.
    • If your sitemaps are registered in your connected GSC account, Top Title can access them. You can select URLs directly from your sitemap lists.

Coming Soon: Manual URL list pasting will be available in a future update with enhanced validation features.

### 2. Configure Source & Fetch URLs

Depending on your chosen source, you may need to configure data fetching options:

  • Fetch Data From Last: If sourcing from Google Search Console, select the time period for which to retrieve performance data (e.g., 3 Months, 6 Months).
  • Click the "Fetch URLs" button to populate the candidate URL list based on your selections.

### 3. Filter & Select Candidate URLs

Once URLs are fetched, they appear in the "Candidate URLs" table. You can now filter this list to refine your selection:

  • Filter URLs by Path: Use the "Add URL Filter" option to include or exclude URLs based on patterns in their path (e.g., contains "/blog/", does not contain "/category/old/").
  • Filter by Metrics: Use the "Add Metric Filter" to narrow down URLs based on their GSC performance data (e.g., Impressions > 1000, Clicks < 50, Position > 10).
  • Select the URLs you wish to optimize from the filtered list using the checkboxes next to each entry.

### 4. URLs to Optimize

The URLs you select are added to the "URLs to Optimize" table. This table displays the count of selected URLs and provides key Google Search Console data for each, allowing you to validate your choices.

Important: Credits are only charged for URLs Top Title successfully processes. We check all selected URLs: they must be live (200 OK status) and not broken (e.g., 404 errors). Inaccessible or invalid URLs are skipped automatically, and you won't be charged for them.

URLs to Optimize table showing selected URLs and their GSC data

In this "URLs to Optimize" table, you can:

  • View GSC Data: See columns for URL Path, Impressions, Clicks, CTR (%), and average Position for each selected URL.
  • Filter URLs: Use the "Filter selected URLs..." input box to quickly find specific URLs within your selected list if it's extensive.
  • Manage Selections:
    • Individually select URLs using checkboxes next to each entry if needed for removal.
    • Click "Remove Selected" to remove any URLs you have checked from this final list.
    • Click "Remove All" to clear all URLs from the current job selection.

After reviewing and finalizing your list in the "URLs to Optimize" table, you are ready to configure prompts and submit your job. Click the "Next: Review Job" button to proceed to the next step.

## Troubleshooting Job Details & URL List Building

  • GSC Account Not Appearing: Ensure you have correctly connected your Google Search Console account in the Top Title settings. If recently connected, try refreshing the page.
  • Site URL Mismatch: Verify that the Site URL selected in Step 1 corresponds to the GSC account you intend to use.
  • URLs Not Fetching (GSC/Sitemap): If using GSC or Sitemap source, check that the selected GSC property has data for the chosen period or that the sitemap is accessible and correctly formatted.
  • Filtering Issues: Double-check your path or metric filter criteria for typos or logical errors. Start with broader filters and narrow them down.
